BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has charged a former state treasurer Republican candidate with seven felony counts of misuse of public money by a public officer.

According to court records, Wasden's office filed the complaint Wednesday against Ada County Treasurer Vicky McIntyre. A summons was then issued Thursday.

Wasden's office says McIntyre allegedly used a county credit card for personal purchases between January 2016 and March 2018.

McIntyre unsuccessfully ran for state treasurer in the May primary against two other opponents. She had been endorsed by five-term Treasurer Ron Crane, who is retiring at the end of the year.

McIntyre had been treasurer for Ada County since 2010.

Ada County commissioners announced Thursday that McIntyre had been suspended until further notice and Elizabeth Mahn has been appointed acting treasurer effective immediately.
