MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have selected the contract of right-hander Anthony Bass from Triple-A Iowa, adding a fresh arm to the bullpen.

Righty Cory Mazzoni, who allowed one run in two innings in a 7-1 loss Sunday to Pittsburgh, was optioned to Triple-A. Right-hander Eddie Butler, who is sidelined by a strained right groin, was transferred to the 60-day DL.

The Cubs announced the moves Monday before the opener of their three-game road series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Bass was 0-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 18 games at Iowa, converting three of four save opportunities.

Bass is 5-9 for his career with a 4.60 ERA in the majors. He had previous stints with the Padres, Astros and Rangers.
