MADRID (AP) — Sevilla has hired Girona's Pablo Machin as its new coach.
The 43-year-old former right back arrives after three seasons with Girona, which he helped reach the Spanish first division for the first time in its history.
Girona impressed in its debut season in La Liga, finishing 10th and contending for a spot in the Europa League until the final rounds.
Sevilla ended seventh, in the final qualification spot for the Europa League.
The team had three coaches this season: Eduardo Berizzo, Vincenzo Montella and Joaquin Caparros.
Caparros, who coached the team in the early 2000s, last week was announced as the team's director of football.
Sevilla's deal with Machin was announced on Monday.
