MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — A student has filed a lawsuit against Washington State University, claiming the university failed to protect her from a hostile campus environment in 2015.
The Daily News reported Saturday that the university's Office for Equal Opportunity initiated an investigation after the then-freshman said she was called a racial black slur at a fraternity house event.
The Office of Student Conduct then conducted a hearing on the matter, and the fraternity member was ousted from the fraternity and school. But the student claims she continued to receive harassment after the incident, and says the university violated federal requirements of Title VI and Title IX.
Phil Weiler, vice president of marketing and communications for WSU, said the university "took immediate and swift action to investigate and address the concerns raised" once it became aware of the incident.
