LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles FC forward Marco Urena will be out for at least a month after undergoing surgery to repair broken bones in his face.
LAFC announced the injury Tuesday. Urena will have surgery Friday.
Urena was injured in a collision during the first half of his expansion MLS club's first home game last Sunday, a 1-0 win over Seattle.
Urena has been a key player for LAFC, which is off to a 5-2-0 start to its debut season. He leads the league with five assists while starting all seven games.
Urena also is expected to be called up to Costa Rica's national team for the World Cup next month, which means he could be away from LAFC until late July.
LAFC hosts FC Dallas on Saturday.
