ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state's highest court has suspended a Rochester judge after authorities say she tried to buy a shotgun in violation of her probation for a drunken driving conviction.

Rochester city court Judge Leticia Astacio was suspended by the Court of Appeals on Wednesday.

Astacio was charged Tuesday with attempted criminal purchase of a weapon. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office was called to a Dick's Sporting Goods store in the Rochester suburb of Henrietta last week when a clerk reported Astacio had tried to buy a shotgun.

On Facebook Saturday, Astacio said she gets death threats and her sister was the one who tried to buy the shotgun.

Efforts to reach her for further comment were unsuccessful.

Astacio hasn't heard cases since her 2016 arrest for DWI.
