SALT LAKE CITY — Copper Hills used a constant and steady attack to beat the Fremont Silver Wolves 65-53 Thursday night.

Copper Hills was efficient on both offense and defense in the win over Fremont, shooting 66 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.

"Offensively, I didn't expect them to go zone, so that was a little bit of a surprise," Copper Hills head coach Andrew Blanchard said. "But when they did, we kind of responded well there in the first half and then in the third quarter as well."

Fremont, on the other hand, struggled to make a shot, going 21-of-55 on 38 percent shooting.

"Well, we just try to locate their shooters. No. 30 (Dallin Hall) is a pretty dang good player … so we were just trying to key on him a lot," Blanchard said.

Fremont battled and managed to keep it close, but the steady and consistent attack of Copper Hills stood too strong. Junior Trevon Allfrey led the Grizziles with 31 points and eight rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting. The 6-foot-7 big came up big from the free-throw line, going 12-of-13.

"The threes that we took were wide open, and they came from Trevon Allfrey being so well tonight," Blanchard said. "They were keying on him, and he tried to make the right play."

Fremont started the game out struggling, only scoring four points in the opening quarter. The shooting slump continued until the last few minutes of the second quarter. Fremont would make a push in the final minutes of the half, bringing the Silver Wolves within six points going into the locker room.

Fremont continued to fight in the second half, but the Silver Wolves could never go on a big run to take the lead.

"Just in my mind, if you let somebody get in a run in the state tournament, you never know what could happen," Allfrey said.
