FGCU uses hot shooting to get past North Florida in ASUN

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Brandon Goodwin had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists on Thursday night and top-seeded Florida Gulf Coast beat No. 5 seed North Florida 95-72 in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Tournament.

The Eagles (23-10) will host No. 2 seed Lipscomb for the championship on Sunday.

FGCU pulled away with a 17-4 run to lead 74-53 just before the midpoint of the second half. North Florida (14-19) got no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

The Eagles led by as many as 17 in the first half and made 23 of 37 (62 percent) from the field, a program record for made field goals in the first half at the Division I level. The Ospreys made 18 of 30 shots (60 percent) in the first half but trailed 55-44 at the break.

Zach Johnson had five 3-pointers and 17 points and Michael Gilmore scored 16 for FGCU. Christian Terrell added 14 points and seven assists.

J.T. Escobar led North Florida with 22 points.
