NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Ivan Canete scored 15 points, distributed six assists and had five steals to lead Stephen F. Austin past Abilene Christian 76-56 on Wednesday night.
The Lumberjacks entered the game leading the nation in steals, and came up with 11 swipes to set a new program record for a single season with 319 (10.6 per game) to break the 2015-16 season record of 311.
Stephen F. Austin (24-6, 13-4 Southland Conference) used an early 10-0 run and led 21-9 as Abilene Christian went scoreless for nearly seven minutes, missing 11 shots. The Lumberjacks, who never trailed, led 44-21 at halftime and extended the lead to 30 with a 7-0 run to start the second half.
Stephen F. Austin's Ty Charles finished with seven points, and his 25-foot, 3-pointer before halftime made him the 30th player in program history to top 1,000-career points.
B.J. Maxwell led Abilene Christian (15-15, 7-10) with 13 points.
