CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Charles Brown III had 18 points with Shawn Johnson adding 14 with 10 rebounds as Incarnate Word picked up its first Southland Conference victory of the season, beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 69-62 on its home floor on Saturday.
Incarnate Word (6-20, 1-15) is out of the conference tournament but the Islanders (9-17, 6-10) are still battling for the eighth and final spot with two league games remaining. They host McNeese on Wednesday. The Cowboys are one game ahead of A&M-Corpus Christi in the standings.
The Cardinals drained 7 of 11 from beyond the arc to take a 35-26 halftime advantage. Augustine Ene led the way, making 3 of 5 from distance for 11 points. He finished with 12.
The Islanders, who halted a four-game losing streak by beating Abilene Christian 76-67 on Thursday, could not overtake Incarnate Word in the second period.
Joseph Kilgore led the Islanders with 23 points and nine boards. Sean Rhea added 18 points.
