Iroegbu scores 20, Stony Brook upends UMBC 64-57

BALTIMORE (AP) — UC Iroegbu scored 20 points including four free throws in an 8-0 closing run over the final minute and Stony Brook defeated Maryland Baltimore County 64-57 Wednesday night, foiling UMBC's bid for a share of the America East Conference championship.

UMBC (19-10, 10-4) had won three in a row, but the loss leaves the Retrievers three games behind conference leader Vermont with two to play. Stony Brook (12-17, 7-8) has won its last two and four of five.

Iroegbu made four 3-pointers, Akwasi Yeboah scored 18 points for the Seawolves with three 3-pointers and eight rebounds, Elijah Olaniyi scored 13.

The Stony Brook bench outscored UMBC's 29-8, the Seawolves reserves accomplishing the feat for the 21st time in 28 games.

UMBC picked up 13 steals, forced Stony Brook into 18 turnovers, but only scored 17 points off the miscues. Jairus Lyles led the Retrievers with 18 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. K.J. Maura added 15 points.
