TAYLORSVILLE — Riverton used a big second-half offensive run to advance to the girls 6A quarterfinals Tuesday in a 68-52 rout over American Fork.

Riverton only led by 1 point at the halftime break but scored 41 points in the second half on multiple big runs to put the visiting Cavemen to sleep. The Silverwolves put some distance on the Cavemen by making four of their five second-half 3-pointers in the third quarter.

The Silverwolves methodically added to the score with the inside presence of Morgan Kane, who was able to escape the earlier double and triple team defense after Riverton’s hot shooting behind the perimeter. Kane finished the game as the team’s leading scorer with 20 points and 14 rebounds as teammates continued to feed the ball into the post.

Jaydeene Burgess and Kaitlin Burgess each finished with 16 points and a combined eight 3-pointers. The Silverwolves ended the game with 11 made 3-pointers on 19 shots.

The Cavemen, who were up by as much as 4 points on a 14-0 run in the second quarter, were led by Addison Holmstead, who finished with 21 points. Jamie Shepherd added 13 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.

Riverton jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter behind a 12-2 run, but a cold spell in the second quarter and hot shooting by the Cavemen allowed for American Fork to make it a game. However, Riverton would bounce back and retake the lead to go up 27-26 at the half.

Riverton will play the winner of Fremont and Hunter on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Salt Lake Community College.
