Prairie View A&M fends off Ark-Pine Bluff with 76-71 OT win

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Gary Blackston and Dennis Jones each scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures and Prairie View A&M beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 76-71 in overtime on Saturday night.

J.D. Wallace's layup put the Panthers up 66-64 to start overtime and Prairie View never trailed again. Wallace's dunk made it 74-71 with 12 seconds left, and after a timeout, Charles Jackson missed a 3-point attempt with a chance to tie.

Travon Harper's layup for Pine Bluff as time expired at the end of regulation tied it at 64 to force the extra session. Zachary Hamilton's layup with six seconds to go put Prairie View (11-16, 8-5 Southwestern Athletic) ahead 64-62. Before that, Harper's 3-point play tied it at 62 with 33 seconds remaining.

Troy Thompson scored 12 for the Panthers and Hamilton and Wallace each scored 11.

Harper led the Golden Lions (9-19, 9-5) with 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting and a team-high seven rebounds. Christian Robertson made all seven of his shot attempts for 14 points and Jackson scored 13.
