SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — TJ Shorts II scored 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting with six assists and UC Davis beat Big West Conference leader UC Santa Barbara 71-54 on Saturday, ending the Gauchos' eight-game winning streak.

AJ John added 13 points and six rebounds for the Aggies (18-9, 9-4), who shot 55 percent in handing UCSB its first home loss this season after 11 wins.

Gabe Vincent scored 17 points with five assists for the Gauchos (20-6, 9-3), who remain alone in first. Max Heidegger, the top scorer in the Big West at more than 20 per game, made only 1 of 5 from the arc and finished with 13 points.

The Aggies were leading 44-40 with 12 minutes left when they went on a 23-6 run to lead by 21 with 5:37 to go, with Shorts scoring 10 points and John making a trio of 3-pointers.
