BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Tyler Nelson scored 29 points with three 3-pointers, Ferron Flavors Jr. added 16 points with four 3s and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Fairfield held off Marist 83-79 on Thursday night to end a two-game skid.
Jesus Cruz scored 10 points with four assists for the Stags (11-15, 6-9 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who made 11 3-pointers and shot 45 percent from the field. Jerome Segura had three steals and made two assists for his 400th career assist.
Nelson's 3-pointer gave Fairfield its largest lead, 71-59, with 6:32 to play, but Marist closed to 81-79 after Brian Parker's back-to-back layups with five seconds left. Flavors sealed it with two free throws and Nelson got a steal on the next Marist possession.
Cruz's jumper put the Stags up for good, 22-20, and Fairfield led 38-32 at halftime.
Parker scored 18 points with four assists and Ryan Funk added 15 points with three 3s for the Red Foxes (5-22, 3-12), who have lost five straight.
