UAB rallies past Rice 61-56

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Chris Cokley had 15 points and nine rebounds and UAB rallied from nine down with less than four minutes to go for a 61-56 win on Saturday night.

Cokley sparked the 15-1 run to end the game with a dunk converted for a 3-point play that cut the deficit to 55-49 with 3:37 to play.

Nick Norton and Nate Darling hit back-to-back 3s to give the Blazers (16-10, 7-6 Conference USA) the lead at 57-56 and Norton hit all four of his free throws in the final six seconds to secure the win.

Darling and William Lee added 12 points for UAB, which led 27-22 at halftime.

Ako Adams and Bishop Mency led the Owls (5-20, 2-10) with 15 points each and Connor Cashaw chipped in 13 point and eight rebounds. Rice had a 16-5 run to overtake the Blazers early in the second half.
