BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Alex Thompson and Demetrius Denzel-Dyson combined to score 44 points as Samford shot better than 67 percent from the field to fly past The Citadel, 116-103 in a Southern Conference game on Saturday night.

Samford connected on 40 of 59 shots from the field (67.8 percent), knocking down 16 of 25 shots from beyond the arc and converting 20 of 26 from the free throw line.

Samford (9-18, 5-9) took a 62-51 lead at intermission and scored the first eight points of the second half to push the lead to 70-51,

Thompson hit 10 of 11 shots from the field to score 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Denzel-Dyson knocked down 4 of 7 from beyond the three-point arc and finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Eric Adams added 17 points and nine boards and Justin Coleman added 16 points and a team-high 13 boards.

Zane Najdawi finished with 33 points to lead The Citadel (9-16, 4-9), with Quayson Williams and Matt Frierson adding 19 and 18 points, respectively.
