Smith leads UNC Greensboro to an 80-67 win over Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Marvin Smith scored 18 points and led five teammates into double-figure scoring as UNC Greensboro knocked off Furman for its seventh win in its last eight Southern League outings Wednesday night.

The Spartans (18-6, 9-2) maintain their hold on second place in conference, two games behind unbeaten East Tennessee.

UNC Greensboro completed the season sweep of the Paladins by hitting 30 of 56 shots from the field (53.6 percent), including 8 of 20 from long distance. Francis Alonso and Demetrius Troy each added 12 points for UNCG, with James Dickey adding 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds and Jordy Kuiper contributing 10 points.

Furman shot a crisp 25 of 50 from the field, including 8 of 24 from beyond the three-point arc, but pulled down just 17 total rebounds in the game, two off the offensive glass.

Andrew Brown had 15 points for the Paladins (16-9, 7-5). Daniel Fowler added 12.
