CEDAR CITY — Southern Utah University kicked off the 2018 National Signing Day by signing 30 players to their roster.

Southern Utah signed a relatively even mix of local and non-local talent, signing 13 recruits from Utah and 17 out-of-state players.

Headlining SUU’s signees are Lance Lawson, Draycen Hall, Mike Petty, and Kobi Matagi.

Lawson is a 5-foot-7 wide receiver from Mesa, AZ. The three-star recruit chose SUU despite receiving an offer from the University of Arizona.

Hall is a 5-foot-7, 185 lb. three-star recruit from Gilbert, AZ. His explosiveness and ability to break through tackles should pay dividends for the Thunderbirds.

Petty and Matagi are Utah natives. Matagi is a two-star recruit from Bingham High School. At 6-foot-1 and 190 lbs., the inside linebacker is expected to be a force for the Thunderbirds.

Petty is a DL out of Draper. The two-star recruit was also interested in BYU and San Diego.
