BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Josh Nzeakor and reserve Nick Garth scored 18 points apiece and Lamar doubled up Division-III member Howard Payne 112-56 on Saturday.
Colton Weisbrod finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals (8-1), who upped their winning streak to five and are off to their best start since the 1992-93 season. Zjori Bosha added 12 points and seven steals as Lamar forced 34 turnovers for the second straight game — also doing it in a win over St. Thomas. T.J. Atwood and Joey Frenchwood added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Khyce Randall scored 14 points to pace the Yellow Jackets, while reserve Drake Cooper made 5 of 6 shots and scored 12. Randall came into the game averaging 27.8 points.
This one was over early. Lamar grabbed it first double-digit lead at the 11:28 mark of the first half and pushed its advantage to 57-27 by halftime. The lead grew to 44 on eight straight points by Frenchwood 3:42 into the second half.
