LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — Officials in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, say more than 9,000 parking tickets may go unpaid after a series of delays with the computerized ticketing system.
Larry Cohen, executive director of the Lancaster Parking Authority, says the tickets span from January to April. He estimates the fines could total about $250,000.
The authority took over parking enforcement from the city at the start of the year. Cohen says the transfer process made it so that it wasn't until mid-June when the computerized ticketing system began sending past-due tickets to prosecutors.
By that time, all tickets issued before May 1 were past the state's statute of limitations on enforcing parking violations.
Cohen says the city is aware of the issue, and enforcement revenue has already exceeded expectations.
