ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan has lost quarterback Wilton Speight for multiple weeks with an undisclosed injury. Coach Jim Harbaugh says John O'Korn will start Saturday night against Michigan State. Speight was hurt in the first quarter during a win at Purdue. Harbaugh later referred to it as a "soft tissue" injury.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska faces back-to-back games against top-10 opponents in Wisconsin and Ohio State and then a tricky road game at Purdue. The three games could go a long way in determining how the season and coach Mike Riley are judged. Riley is 18-13 in three seasons at Nebraska. The Huskers have won two games after a stunning home loss to Northern Illinois and athletic director Shawn Eichorst was fired.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — No. 9 Wisconsin is turning up the pressure, and after swarming Northwestern for eight sacks, the Badgers have their sights set on Nebraska this weekend. The Badgers are averaging 4 sacks per game, tied for fourth nationally and second in the conference. Defensive end Alec James said more speed in the secondary has helped the defense across the aboard. Outside linebacker Garret Dooley led the way last week with three sacks.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana's bounce-back strategy from a lopsided loss starts with a quarterback change: Redshirt freshman Peyton Ramsey is in and senior Rich Lagow is out. Coach Tom Allen also says he doesn't plan to rotate his quarterbacks anymore. The Hoosiers are off to a 2-2 start. The quarterback change will take effect this Saturday when Indiana hosts Charleston Southern.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Jeff George Jr. has been named the starting quarterback at Illinois, which is off to a middling start behind the Big Ten's worst offense. Chayce Crouch started in the Illini's first four games, but after a 28-6 loss to Nebraska, coach Lovie Smith decided to change things. Illinois is averaging just under 20 points per game going into Saturday's game at Iowa.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Suspended Michigan football player Nate Johnson is facing one charge of domestic assault. School spokeswoman Diane Brown says the alleged assault happened outside of a dormitory and Johnson was arrested nearby. The sophomore cornerback from Thompson's Station, Tennessee, was suspended the same day. He hasn't played this year.
