Aug. 30--The Harold E. LeMay Museum has raised more than 50 percent of its first-phase goal of $55 million.
David Madeira, museum chief executive, said last week that the campaign is on track. He will present the current figure to the museum's board of directors in early September and will release it to the public after that.
"We're still on target for a groundbreaking in late '07," he said.
The car museum continues to build its capital campaign while showing the museum colors nationwide.
J. David Snow, director of major gift development, and Greg Starypan, grants writer, have recently joined the museum staff to aid in the fundraising effort.
The museum will be built on a parking area near the Tacoma Dome.
Driving a 1927 LaSalle, Madeira visited this summer's Pebble Beach, Calif., Concours d'Elegance, and the museum also provided a 1924 Lincoln Judkins -- for a $20,000 donation -- to an enthusiast who "adopted" the car at the event.
