UNDATED (AP) — Preseason longshots the past two years have ended up winning the Heisman Trophy. Last year, Louisville's Lamar Jackson had 50-1 odds when practices started. Two years ago Alabama's Derrick Henry was at 25-1 in the preseason before setting a Southeastern Conference single-season rushing record with 1,986 yards and becoming just the second running back since 1999 to win.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Seven players are in their fifth year of eligibility at Ohio State. Most are among the best players in college football. Coach Urban Meyer says it's unusual at a big-time football program that regularly churns our early departing stars for the NFL. The group is led by quarterback J.T. Barrett and Tyquan Lewis, the reigning Big Ten defensive player of the year.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The season-ending knee injury to top linebacker Jack Cichy has left a bittersweet opportunity for Chris Orr to regain his starting spot at Wisconsin. Orr missed the 2016 campaign after hurting his right knee on the first defensive snap of the season opener. Now Cichy is done for the year after hurting his right knee last week. While the Badgers lose an energetic presence, they do have experienced replacements Orr and Ryan Connelly. Orr is eager to play again alongside starter T.J. Edwards.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota will start the season with a quarterback rotation between senior Conor Rhoda and sophomore Demry Croft. New Gophers coach P.J. Fleck says Rhoda and Croft will both play in the opener Aug. 31 against Buffalo. He says the decision is "what's best for our program right now."
