UNDATED (AP) — Two years after first being charged, North Carolina has appeared before an NCAA infractions committee panel amid its long-running academic scandal. School officials including chancellor Carol Folt, athletic director Bubba Cunningham and men's basketball coach Roy Williams were among the school's representatives at Wednesday's hearing in Nashville, Tennessee. The two-day hearing is set to resume Thursday morning.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says Kelly Bryant will likely start the season opener at quarterback against Kent State. Swinney says Bryant will continue to be evaluated during training camp and should the junior fall back, his starting status could change. The national champion Tigers are looking to replace All-American Deshaun Watson.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Duke says starting safety Jeremy McDuffie is out indefinitely after having surgery on his broken right thumb. Team spokesman Art Chase says McDuffie had the operation earlier this week. The junior has 34 tackles and one interception in 24 career games. He entered preseason camp as the starter at the team's "strike" safety position.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas feels Brock Osweiler will be named the Browns' opening-week starter against Pittsburgh. Thomas said based on what he's seen in practice that the team is grooming Osweiler to start the Sept. 10 opener. That's fine with Thomas, who has been impressed with Osweiler and he also hopes the team will be patient with rookie DeShone Kizer. Coach Hue Jackson said Osweiler will start Monday night's exhibition against the Giants with Kizer coming in next.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Reggie Bonnafon began at Louisville as a quarterback before Lamar Jackson arrived to claim the job and win the Heisman Trophy. After spending most of last season at wide receiver, the Cardinals senior is preparing to be their No. 1 running back.
