BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Caeleb Dressel has become the first swimmer ever to win three gold medals on a single night at the world championships. America's newest star began with a victory in the 50-meter freestyle. He returned about a half-hour later to nearly break Michael Phelps' world record in the 100 butterfly. Then he closed by leading off a world-record performance in the mixed 4x100 free relay. That gave Dressel six gold medals in the championships, putting him in position to tie Phelps' record of seven golds at the 2007 worlds. He returns to the pool tomorrow on the 4x100 medley relay team.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Katie Ledecky (leh-DEK'-ee) has won her fifth gold medal of the world championships, cruising to victory in the 800-meter freestyle. The 20-year-old American wasn't seriously challenged, but finished far off her world record with a time of 8 minutes, 12.68 seconds. She won gold at last year's Olympics in 8:04.79.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Devin Fuller will miss the season with a knee injury, marking the second straight year he's has had a season-ending injury before playing a game. Coach Dan Quinn says Fuller suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in practice yesterday and will need season-ending injury after the non-contact injury. The seventh-round pick from UCLA in 2016 also missed last season with a shoulder injury.

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have signed linebacker Darnell Sankey following an injury to Kentrell Brothers. Brothers, a fifth-round draft pick last year out of Missouri, left the field on a cart yesterday while clutching his left hamstring. Sankey joined the Vikings today, the first day of practice in pads. The undrafted product of Sacramento State spent time last season with Denver, Oakland and Kansas City. He's the cousin of Bishop Sankey, a running back on the Vikings roster.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam says he's embarrassed the franchise hasn't been more successful under his leadership. Haslam and his wife, Dee, have owned the club since about midway through the 2012 and the Browns have gone a combined 15-49 over the past four seasons, including a 1-15 mark last season. But he says he's convinced that coach Hue Jackson is the right choice to turn the team around.
