GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) — The Latest on a woman pleading guilty in connection to her fiance's April 2015 kayaking death (all times local):
The lawyer for a woman who pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in her fiance's April 2015 kayaking death says the plea supports the defense contention that it was "not an intentional act."
Richard Portale says Angelika Graswald didn't set out to kill 46-year-old Vincent Viafore.
Prosecutors had charged her with murder. They accused her of removing a plug from Viafore's kayak and pushing a floating paddle away from him after the kayak capsized in April 2015. Her defense had said it was an accident, with factors including high waves, cold water and alcohol.
She pleaded guilty Monday in Orange County Court.
The charge carries a sentence of up to four years in prison. Portale says with the time she's already been in custody, she will likely be out by late December.
