SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Family members serving as legal guardians of an embattled Utah elected official being treated at a medical facility are relieved they've worked out a deal for his resignation. Mary Corporon, an attorney for Salt Lake County Recorder Gary Ott's family, said at a press conference Thursday that more than a year of public speculation about Ott's mental capacity has been frustrating and embarrassing for the family. She says a deal for him to resign August 1 allows Ott to retire with privacy.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge has ruled that a Utah county's election district boundaries violate the rights of Native Americans who make up roughly half the county's population. U.S. District Judge Robert Shelby had ordered San Juan County in southeastern Utah to redraw its county commission and school board election districts last year. The new maps, Shelby found, are still unconstitutional.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge is weighing whether the Drug Enforcement Administration can access a Utah prescription-drug database without a warrant in a case that pits the right to privacy against the need to combat the country's opioid-drug epidemic. U.S. District Judge David Nuffer is hearing arguments in a lawsuit over a database that holds records of people's prescriptions for anti-anxiety and sleep-aid drugs as well as prescription painkillers.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say they believe a northern Utah gynecologist shared child pornography images and had explicit online discussions. The Davis County Sheriff's Office says Nathan Clark Ward was arrested on suspicion of seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
