BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho man told a judge he shot another man during a road-rage incident to protect himself after the man said he was going to kill him.

The Idaho Statesman reports (http://bit.ly/2tS838j ) Jacob Wall pleaded guilty Thursday to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter in the November shooting death of Luis Lara.

An Ada County prosecutor says Wall had the opportunity to walk away after Lara first retreated, but did not.

Wall was originally charged with murder and aggravated battery. The murder charge was reduced and the battery charge was dropped in exchange for his guilty plea.

Wall could serve up to 10 years in prison for manslaughter and up to 15 additional years for use of a deadly weapon when he is sentenced Sept. 11.
