It's hard to imagine a 20-point win on the road being disappointing, but that's exactly what happened to the Cougars on Friday. Now they have a bitter taste in their mouths, and it may have come at a good time.
"I think it was good to kind of kick us in the mouth and realize you can't let anyone else determine how well you are going to play," said Travis Bright, senior offensive lineman.
Junior quarterback Max Hall said, "This might sound weird, but it felt kind of good to throw a couple interceptions and kind of bring me down a little bit. The expectation of play around here is so high."
"I think we have learned tons of lessons from it," said senior linebacker David Nixon.
They will put those lessons to the test against New Mexico on Saturday. The Lobos shut out Wyoming last week, but new quarterback Brad Gruner has passed for only 88 yards in the last two games, and star running back Rodney Ferguson is nursing a shoulder injury. It could be the perfect storm for a big cougar victory.
"I'm excited to play these guys. I think the stuff that we have in and the way our offense is playing right now, there's potential for us to have a big game," Hall said.
