Would it be possible to query your data bases and send me the temperatures (morning, midday, evening, night, high and low) for September 7, 2002; September 6, 2003; September 11, 2004; and September 10, 2005 for the Salt Lake Valley, Brighton Ski Resort, Francis Peak or Farmington Canyon, and Bountiful City? Or simply pass on a good website where I might obtain this information? This data would be extremely helpful in preparation for the Wasatch Front 100 Endurance Run. Thank you very much for your help. This has to be the most common type of question we as meteorologists receive and the answer is simple but you just need to know where to dig. Since you are looking for past "climate" data, just doing a search for weather data probably won't get you the right information.
Since you are basically trying to get an average of temperatures in a few different locations that might be harder to do. The data is available but some might cost money, and some of the data just might be a little slower to pull up on the Utah Mesonet, a great resource that few know about.
First, check out the link on the right to Weather Underground, we send people here all the time because the layout is so user friendly that everyone can understand it. Type in Salt Lake City in the box at the top, you'll be taken to a forecast page, at the bottom of it, there's a section for Almanac and History, you can look up dates in the past here very easily.
Now, the Utah Mesonet, the link there will probably take you to today's data, I'm not sure how it will udpate itself. At anyrate, check the weather station you want some information on. Click on it. Then when you get to the new page, find the bar on the left, it will say "Past Data" and pick the day you want and the time you want. The clock is a little funky, just set it for 00 hour and you'll get the 24 hours on the day you want, you can keep it on local time or you can use GMT time if that's your thing. There's information for Brighton and there should be some for Bountiful. The mesonet sites are listed by county, so you'll need to know which counties your site is in, or do a control+F function to find the city name on the large list.
Hopefully this will help you out and help a few other people looking for information. We get questions like this about 5+ times a week from viewers or from insurance companies who want past weather data. Have a good race!
