SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah basketball program announced that two players will not be returning to the team for the 2017-18 season.
Head coach Larry Krystkowiak announced Friday that freshman guard Devon Daniels and junior guard JoJo Zamora will no longer be on the team and that there are “certain responsibilities and expectations that are critical in being a member of our program.” Krystkowiak added that he wished the players well in their future.
Krystkowiak suspended Daniels on Feb. 23 after “conduct detrimental to the team” before allowing him to return to play in Utah’s only game in the Pac-12 Tournament and in its one NIT game.
Daniels was a dynamic guard that had transitioned well in his first season, averaging 9.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in the 29 games he played in this season. Zamora, who was in his first season with Utah after transferring from Yuba College, averaged 6.9 points and 1.4 rebounds. Zamora played in all 32 games this season.
