SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah authorities say a man accused of killing a train worker has been transported to Wyoming where the alleged crime occurred. Utah Department of Corrections spokeswoman Maria Peterson says that Wyoming authorities picked up Dereck James "DJ" Harrison on Tuesday. Harrison was sentenced to at least 30 years in a Utah prison last year after pleading guilty to tying up a woman and her four daughters in a basement.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has signed legislation that overhauls alcohol licensing and rules about serving drinks in restaurants. Herbert said in statement Tuesday that changes will make restaurant licensing fairer and give establishments options and time to comply with the law.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Clean air advocates are upset that Gov. Gary Herbert signed into law a measure that allows wood burning for cooking on even the worst air quality days. Herbert signed the measure Friday despite the Utah Air Quality Board asking him to veto it. The board said it would negatively impact the state's ability to meet federal air quality standards. The measure was pushed by Traeger Grills, a company with headquarters in Salt Lake City that sells wood pellet grills.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Weather including rapid melts of heavy snowpack has a federal water manager warning Utah residents to watch for flooding in coming weeks. Wayne Pullan, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Provo office manager, tells the Deseret News (http://bit.ly/2nJ9CCJ) that that Mother Nature has thrown the region what he called a "knuckleball" this year, and higher flows than usual are expected in Cache and Utah counties.
