Aloha !

We are from Hawaii and are planning a Wasatch Hiking Trip next month (very beginning of September). Will this be too late to see the wildflowers in bloom at elevations such as Brighton? Will it be late enough to possibly see some fall colors in the trees? Or are we hitting it right in the middle? What will the average temperatures be like in the day and at night? Are shorts and t-shirt wearable? Is there a good chance of running into rainy weather?

MUCH MAHALO (Thank you !)

Lisa & Dean

The wild flowers will mostly be gone but there will still be some neat looking plants and you may spot a herd of goats but don't let that deter you from experiencing the Wasatch Front in September.

September features averages in the 80's in the city and upper 60's in the mountains. Fall colors start to come out a tiny bit at higher elevations at the beginning of September so you may catch a bit of color. The peak time in Northern Utah for color is really the later part of September into early October (early fall). However, you will find incredible scenery, comfortable temperatures and amazing vistas when you visit here.

The link on the right will take you to where you can find some information to take some scenic drives. Even if you don't find peak color when you are visiting in early September, you will find an array of landscapes in Utah and some fantastic hikes. You can do anything from easy to very difficult here so it's suitable for everyone.

Your chances for rain are there as usual and watch for afternoon thunderstorms, but averages overall for each day are very low, just watch the forecast for the latest information. Overnight lows in the city of Salt Lake drop to the 50's and in the mountains, the lows will drop into the 30's. If you're camping, plan accordingly.

If you are hiking during the day time, it might be wise to bring some pants that have a zipper and conver to shorts, especially if you start in the cool mornings and it gets warmer during the day. It can get pretty cool at higher elevations or if you're up at the end of the day. Dress in layers so if you get cold you have a shirt in your bag and you'll be all set.
