Middle Tennessee pulled off an 81-72 upset of Minnesota as Reggie Upshaw scored 19 points and Giddy Potts added 15. Trevon Blueitt scored 21 points and Sean O'Mara had 18 in the Musketeers's 76-65 decision over Maryland.
UNDATED (AP) — A pair of No. 1 seeds were in action during Thursday's opening-round play in the NCAA Tournament, and both came away victorious. Villanova thumped Mount St. Mary's, 76-56 behind Donte DiVincenzo's 21 points. Jordan Mathews scored 16 points and Gonzaga advanced with a 66-46 win against South Dakota State.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers won a matchup of NBA division leaders as James scored 17 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter of a 91-83 downing of Utah. James was 13 of 20 from the field and had 10 rebounds with six assists. Love played 19 minutes and scored eight of his 10 points in the opening quarter of his first game since undergoing left knee surgery last month.
TORONTO (AP) — Russell Westbrook notched his 34th triple-double of the season with 24 points, 16 assists and 10 boards to lead Oklahoma City's 123-102 romp over the Raptors in Toronto. Victor Oladipo (oh-lah-DEE'-poh) added 23 points as the Thunder pulled within 3 ½ games of the first-place Jazz in the Northwest Division. The Raptors are four games behind the Atlantic-leading Celtics.
UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks have opened a three-point lead over Minnesota in the NHL's Western Conference and Central Division races. Richard Panik's goal with 3:01 left gave the Blackhawks a 2-1 win at Ottawa. The Wild were 3-1 losers at Carolina as Victor Rask snapped a 1-1 deadlock with 3:24 left.
