MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Sen. Joe Manchin says he opposes any legislation that takes health care away from people in his home state, including the bill proposed by House Republicans and supported by President Donald Trump. The West Virginia Democrat told more than 200 people at a town hall meeting today to bombard Trump with calls and emails in opposition. Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton in West Virginia by a wide margin. The law helped expand coverage to about 210,000 people in West Virginia, including 25,000 getting addiction treatment in the state ravaged by the opioid epidemic.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations says reforming the U.N. and cutting U.S. contributions were "a promise made to the American people and a goal to restore trust and value at the U.N." In a statement, Ambassador Nikki Halley says, "the U.N. spends more money than it should, and in many ways it places a much larger financial burden on the United States than on other countries." President Donald Trump's proposed budget calls for unspecified U.S. cuts in funding for the United Nations and its affiliated agencies.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican chairman of the Senate intelligence committee and the ranking Democrat have released a joint statement on President Donald Trump's allegation that President Barack Obama ordered the wiretapping of Trump Tower. The one-sentence statement from Republican Sen. Richard Burr and Democratic Sen. Mark Warner says they have seen no indication that Trump Tower was "the subject of surveillance" by the U.S. government before or after the 2016 election.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma state senator has surrendered to authorities to face child prostitution charges involving a 17-year-old boy. State Sen. Ralph Shortey was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center. His bond was set at $100,000. Shortey faces charges of engaging in child prostitution, transporting a minor for prostitution and engaging in prostitution within 1,000 feet of church. He told reporters he had no comment on the charges but would release a statement later.

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA men's basketball tournament is fulling underway, with two five seeds surviving first round scares. Notre Dame nearly squandered an 11-point second-half lead, but hung on to beat Princeton, 60-58. Meanwhile, Virginia rallied from 15 points down to beat UNC-Wilmington, 76-71.
