STATESBORO, Ga. — Former Lone Peak standout Conner Toolson had 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists to help Utah Valley to its first-ever win in a national Division I postseason tournament Wednesday with a 74-49 rout of Georgia Southern in the College Basketball Invitational.

“I’m really proud of this team,” Utah Valley coach Mark Pope said. “It’s been a really good run. With th exception of a quadruple overtime game that we end up losing by one point, these guys haven’t lost for a few weeks now. I’m really pleased with our defense. I’m really pleased with how we moved the ball and with our decision-making on offense.

“We’re getting better and better and that’s a big reason why we don’t want this season to end. It was a great night for our guys.”

Jordan Poydras supplied 12 points and six assists for Utah Valley (16-16), which advanced to face Rice in the second round Monday in Houston. Brandon Randolph had 12 points and four rebounds off the bench, and Zach Nelson supplied 10 points as the Wolverines blew open a 36-25 halftime lead by holding the Eagles to 24 second-half points.

Montae Glenn had a game-high 13 points to lead Georgia Southern (18-15), which only lost two games at home during the regular season.
