NEW YORK (AP) — The Washington, D.C. area is abuzz with word that with cherry blossom time around the corner, the region could get its first serious winter snow of the season. It's part of a powerful weather system that could deliver high winds and up to a foot of snow in the Northeast and New England. Forecasters at the National Weather Service said Saturday there's a blizzard watch for coastal regions including New York City and Boston.
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — A landslide at a massive garbage dump on the outskirts of Ethiopia's capital has killed at least 15 people and left dozens missing. Addis Ababa Mayor Diriba Kuma says 15 bodies have been recovered since the landslide buried several makeshift homes and concrete buildings. About 150 people were at the site. Many had been scavenging to make a living, but others live there because renting homes is relatively inexpensive.
PARIS (AP) — One of the most notorious political terrorists of the 1970s and '80s is scheduled to go on trial tomorrow in France for a deadly attack in a Paris' shopping mall decades ago. Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, also known as Carlos the Jackal, the former public enemy of France, is already serving a life sentence in France for a series of murders and attacks he perpetrated or organized in the country on behalf of the Palestinian cause or communist revolution.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Ousted South Korean President Park Geun-hye (goon-hay) has vacated the presidential palace, two days after the country's Constitutional Court removed her from office over a massive corruption scandal. South Korean television showed Park's motorcade leaving the Blue House and heading for her private home in southern Seoul, where hundreds of police officers, reporters and supporters were gathered.
WASHINGTON (AP) —Daylight saving time is upon us again. For those who forgot to set their clocks ahead one hour before bedtime last night, it's a little later than they think it is. No time change is observed in Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas. Standard time returns Nov. 5.
