WASHINGTON (AP) — The American Medical Association says it won't support the proposed health care plan as drafted by congressional Republicans. The nation's largest physicians group says the proposal is critically flawed and a threat to coverage for poor and sick people in the United States. It's sent a letter to congressional leaders outlining the organization's concerns about the plan to replace the Affordable Care Act. The AMA says the proposed rollback in Medicaid expansion is especially worrisome.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is taking note of today's U.N.-designated International Women's Day, and asking his Twitter followers to join him in "honoring the critical role of women" in the United States and around the world. Trump tweets that he has "tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy." Organizers of the massive women's march in Washington the day after Trump's inauguration are urging women to take the day off and not spend money as a way of demonstrating their economic strength and impact on American society.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — It turns out that the six people who were arrested during a counter-protest against Donald Trump in Minnesota over the weekend include the youngest son of Sen. Tim Kaine, who was Hillary Clinton's running mate. Anti-Trump protesters clashed with hundreds of Trump supporters who were gathered at the State Capitol rotunda on Saturday -- a scene that played out during rallies around the country. The St. Paul Pioneer Press says Linwood Kaine was arrested on suspicion of second-degree riot. His father is voicing support for his three children in a statement, saying they understand the need to express their political views peacefully.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are off to a mixed start on Wall Street as losses in utilities and other dividend stocks outweigh gains in banks. Citigroup rose 3.3 percent in early trading, while JPMorgan Chase gained 1.4 percent.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A private survey finds that American businesses added the most jobs in three years last month. It's a sign that hiring may be accelerating from last year's modest levels. Payroll processor ADP says businesses added 298,000 jobs in February, up from 261,000 the previous month. The gains were led by a huge increase -- 66,000 jobs -- in construction, the most in 11 years. And there were an additional 32,000 manufacturing jobs, the most in five years.
