SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Northern Utah students are getting a chance to build air quality monitors out of toy building blocks to help University of Utah get readings from the schools. KSL-TV reports these students are sometimes kept indoors for recess because of poor air quality and this program allows them to learn more about the issue.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Unified police officer has been found dead at his Salt Lake City home. Salt Lake City police officials say they're investigating, but there's no indication of foul play. They say 52-year-old Jon Richey was found dead Saturday after officers were dispatched to his home for a welfare check when he didn't show up for work. The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death. Richey suffered gunshot wounds in both legs in a January 2016 shootout with a suspect.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A peculiar Utah law requiring that some restaurants prepare alcoholic drinks behind a barrier could be repealed this year. The law has been nicknamed the "Zion Curtain" in a reference to the Mormon church's teetotaler practices. Its defenders say the law helps keep restaurants from looking like bars and shields children from the glamour of bartending. Critics say the barriers are silly, burdensome for restaurants and serve no purpose.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — All lanes of U.S. 189 in Provo Canyon are open again after crews finishing clearing a mudslide and making repairs. The highway northeast of Provo was reopened early Saturday afternoon after being closed most of Saturday morning.
