ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have won their salary arbitration case with pitcher Shelby Miller. Despite being just 3-13 last season with a whopping 6.15 ERA, he was asking for $5.1 million. By "losing" his case Miller will have to settle for $4.7 million.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals and closer Kelvin Herrera have avoided going to arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5,325,000 contract. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 2.63 ERA over parts of six seasons, and has appeared in at least 70 games each of the past three.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Second-round play in the PGA's Phoenix Open is in progress in Scottsdale, Arizona. There's currently a two-way tie for the early clubhouse lead at 10-under involving Byeong Hun An and Brendan Steele. First-round leader Matt Kuchar (KOO'-chur) is in the clubhouse at minus-9.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Because of back spasms, Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw from the Dubai (doo-BY') Desert Classic. The winner of 14 major events failed to make the cut last week in San Diego in his first PGA event in almost a year and a half.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The U.S. wrestling team has been banned from taking part in this month's Freestyle World Cup in Iran. The host country took the action in response to the temporary ban on immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries by President Donald Trump.
