MURRAY, Utah (AP) — Police say a Utah man has been charged with stalking and threatening a Mormon official after his interview at the church-affiliated Brigham Young University-Idaho went wrong.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/2jxmxCJ ) that charging documents say the 30-year-old man from the Salt Lake City suburb of Murray became very angry during a meeting with his bishop regarding his application to BYU-Idaho and a minor physical altercation took place.
Bishops of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are charged with overseeing a segment of the church's local membership.
Police say the man began threatening the bishop and his wife with violence through text messages and social media in January 2016. Prosecutors say he also sprayed an unknown chemical on the bishop's lawn in August, causing it to die.
