EDINBURGH, Scotland, Aug 16, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Actress Sigourney Weaver became the first recipient of the Edinburgh International Film Festival's Diamond Award this week for her cinematic career.
Weaver, who was attending the annual festival in support of her film "Snowcake," accepted the new award Tuesday night and offered would-be thespians a piece of advice, the Scotsman reported.
"You really need to learn to read and write. Make sure you are articulate and get sound training," said the 56-year-old actress. "Most of all, don't give up."
The Scottish film festival introduced the Diamond Award this year.
Actress Tilda Swinton, director D.A. Pennebaker, and the director-producer teams of Mike Leigh and Simon Channing-Williams and Ken Loach and Rebecca O'Brien, are also to be honored during the festival.
