WASHINGTON (AP) — Hours after the Women's March on Washington was scheduled to end, many women are still marching. Hundreds, if not thousands, of protesters are flooding the streets of downtown Washington tonight. Many are chanting and waving signs. Police in cars and on bicycles and motorcycles are escorting the crowd through the congested area. The march has passed through traffic at times but many drivers don't seem to mind.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's press secretary is declaring that Trump's inauguration had the largest audience in history "both in person and around the globe." Sean Spicer insists that, "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period." Spicer offers no evidence to support the claim. It is not known how many people watched the ceremony on television around the globe. In the U.S., Nielsen estimates 31 million.
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis says he'll wait to see what President Donald Trump does before forming his opinion. In an interview published Saturday evening by Spanish newspaper El Pais, Francis says he doesn't like "judging people early. We'll see what Trump does." Asked about populist-style political leaders emerging in the United States and Europe, Francis warned against seeking a savior in times of crisis.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York governor Andrew Cuomo is requiring health insurance companies to cover medically necessary abortions and most forms of contraception at no cost to women. The regulations are an effort to safeguard protections women currently receive under the Affordable Care Act. Cuomo says the actions will ensure that women in New York will have access to reproductive health care no matter what happens in the federal government.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Hospital officials in Ohio say a student wounded in a school shooting is still listed in critical condition, but is stable. Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus hasn't release any other information on 16-year-old Logan Cole. Police have said he was a random victim of a 17-year-old senior who wielded a shotgun Friday morning at West Liberty High School. The youth faces a preliminary charge of assault.
