PARIS (AP) — Police say a crime that left Kim Kardashian West badly shaken while in Paris has been solved. Authorities have announced the arrest of 16 people in the October theft of more than $10 million worth of jewelry. Police say robbers forced their way into a private Paris residence where Kardashian West was staying, tied her up and locked her in a bathroom before making off with her jewelry.
BERLIN (AP) - Germany's book is closed in a deadly plane crash where the co-pilot deliberately flew it into a mountain. German prosecutors say there are no indications that anybody else was involved in the crash of the Germanwings plane in the French Alps almost two years ago. All 150 people aboard were killed. The co-pilot had been suffering from depression and feared losing his vision but hid that from his employer.
BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) - Winter storms continue to lay siege to parts of Eastern Europe. Serbian authorities have declared emergency measures in nine municipalities in central and southern parts of the country as fresh snow and extremely low temperatures have blocked roads and cut off villages. Heavy snow and polar temperatures diving to -22 Fahrenheit in some areas led to more than a dozen deaths last week.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A famous giant has fallen to the weekend storms in the West. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the historic giant sequoia tree known for the huge tunnel carved through it has toppled and shattered. The tree was hollowed out in the 1880s to allow tourists to pass through it. Officials say two major highways across the Sierra Nevada have been partially closed because of mudslides. More stormy weather is expected today.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - The center of attention in Florida this morning is a courtroom where the suspect in a deadly airport shooting is to make his first appearance. Iraq war veteran Esteban Santiago is accused of killing five people and could face the death penalty if convicted. Today's initial hearing is likely to focus on ensuring Santiago has a lawyer and setting future dates.
