CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming has seen its first drop in student enrollment in more than a decade, with state data showing public schools lost more than 700 students in the past year. The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the state Department of Education figures, collected in October, show the statewide decrease in enrollment accounted for less than 1 percent of Wyoming's student population.

DENVER (AP) — A Republican lawmaker is assailing a list of proposals for limiting Western mining to protect the vulnerable sage grouse, while an environmental group says it's a chance for the new administration to help with conservation. The proposals released by the Obama administration Thursday range from banning new mining activity on about 15,000 square miles for up to 20 years to imposing no additional restrictions on mine locations.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming is looking to boost enrollment by increasing transfer students. The Laramie Boomerang reports that Outreach School Interim Dean Alyson Hagy said at a public listening session regarding the school's five-year strategic plan that there's been a considerable dip in the number of transfer students attending UW in recent years.

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — United Airlines will begin using larger airplanes to fly more people from Casper to Denver. The Casper Star-Tribune reports that starting in February, the airline will use a plane designed to fit 70 passengers for the route.
