MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian official says the crash of an airliner into the Black Sea could have been caused by a technical malfunction or a crew error. He doesn't think it was terrorism because the plane was operated by the military. The plane was en route to Russia's air base in Syria with 92 people on board when it crashed shortly after taking off from the resort town of Sochi (SOH'-chee). At least one body has been found.

TORONTO (AP) — A 10-year-old girl has died after falling ill aboard a trans-Atlantic Air Canada flight. The airline says the Toronto-to-London flight diverted to Shannon, Ireland, on Saturday after the child suffered a medical problem. Emergency crews met the aircraft when it landed in Ireland, but Air Canada says local medical authorities pronounced the girl dead. The Boeing 787 with 230 passengers on board continued on to London.

CHICAGO (AP) — It's going to be a white Christmas for parts of the northern Plains and some Western states, whether people want it or not. Forecasters are warning drivers to keep alternate routes in mind and prepare for possible delays. In the coming days, a large swath of the Dakotas is under a blizzard warning, with the National Weather Service forecasting heavy snow and strong winds today and Monday.

JACOB LAKE, Ariz. (AP) — Search crews have rescued a Pennsylvania family that got stranded in the snow on a forest road in northern Arizona while trying to reach the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is closed for winter. The mother was found in a cabin after she'd walked 26 miles in search of help; her husband and son were found near where their vehicle had gotten stuck.

NEW YORK (AP) — A popular member of "The Howard Stern Show" known to fans as Joey Boots has been found dead in his New York apartment. Joseph Bassolino was 49. A police spokesman says it appears Bassolino died of natural causes. Joey Boots gained fame on Stern's talk show for his photobombing and other antics. Stern tweeted, "Tribute to the one and only Joey B in the new year. He will be missed."
