FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — The lawyer for a 15-year-old Utah boy accused of firing a shotgun into the ceiling of a junior high classroom says the incident was a cry for help. The teen made a brief appearance in a Farmington juvenile courtroom Thursday morning, sitting between his parents and his lawyer. He has pleaded not guilty to five theft and firearms charges.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A defense attorney for a Utah polygamous leader who pleaded guilty to food stamp fraud says his client got a harsher punishment after another high-profile defendant escaped. He was accused of telling followers to pool resources such as food stamp benefits. It comes after top leader Lyle Jeffs fled home confinement.
