IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A woman who police say struck two cyclists with her car, killing one of them, is scheduled to stand trial in January.
The Post Register (http://bit.ly/2fWqHSv ) reports Patricia Beyer is scheduled for trial on a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge on Jan. 27 in eastern Idaho.
Police say Beyer was driving home from her job at the Ririe Bar on July 13 when her car collided with 26-year-old Laura Stark and 22-year-old Anne Davis on U.S. Highway 26. Davis, a Williamsburg, Virginia resident, was killed, and Stark, of Jackson, Michigan, was paralyzed from the chest down.
The two were on a cross-country trip with about 25 other members of the group Bike & Build, a nonprofit organization that raises money for affordable housing.
Investigators said they found Beyer had been distracted by something, but it was not her phone. Bonneville County Chief Deputy Prosecutor John Dewey said earlier this year that misdemeanor reflected the lack of "gross negligence" in the crash.
