SALT LAKE CITY — A fan gets an excuse note from the Chicago Cubs to wear the team's hat at work, and a TV sound guy nearly pulls a Steve Bartman. More fun stories from the world of sports in today's From Left Field.
Fan gets excuse note from Cubs to wear hat at work
Every company has a dress code each employee must abide.
But when Game 7 and team pride come calling, an exception must be made.
Chicago Cubs fan Adam Jacobi wanted to show his support for his beloved team hours before arguably the biggest game in club history. So, Jacobi wanted to wear his Cubs hat at his desk job.
@maggiehendricks@Cubs Maggie I need to wear a Cubs hat at my desk tomorrow or they might have to forfeit, please tell my boss this — Adam Jacobi (@Adam_Jacobi) November 2, 2016
But, like all employers, there's a dress code and certainly his boss may not seeing an employee wearing a baseball cap at work.
That's were Jacobi's beloved Cubs came in for the rescue.
The Cubs' Twitter account sent Jacobi a nice, quick excuse note that he can give his boss on Wednesday.

@Cubs for the win!
Hopefully, Jacobi's boss was a cool customer and allowed him to sport the Cubbies cap.
It's the Cubs in Game 7 of the World Series for crying out loud!
TV sound guy nearly pulls a Steve Bartman
The Chicago Cubs are one win away from winning the World Series for the first time in 108 years. If Chicago wins, it’ll help fade out the bad memories of past failure.
One of those Cub failures was in 2003 when fan Steve Bartman interfered on a pop fly in Game 6 of that year’s National League Championship Series. Bartman’s name is still dreaded amongst Northsiders.
On Tuesday night in Cleveland, a new Bartman was almost born — figuratively.
During the top of the fifth inning of Game 6 between the Cubs and Indians, a foul ball was heading toward the stands. Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez ran to grab the ball and was nearly met by a FOX TV sound guy who tried to grab the ball himself.
Is it me or did the Fox Sound guy nearly pull a Bartman? #WorldSeriespic.twitter.com/40VFgiDZsK — Arran Andersen (@arranandersen) November 2, 2016
Not cool, sound guy.
With the Cubs winning by a significant margin at that point of the game, it was unlikely the sound guy would’ve started a Cleveland collapse.
I wonder if he still has his job today.
Hunter Pence channels his inner Napoleon Dynamite
Hunter Pence is one of the most colorful characters in baseball. The San Francisco Giants player has everything from an interesting batting stance to an interesting look (some say Marv from “Home Alone”).
For Halloween, Pence dressed as a memorable movie character who’s got all the right moves, Napoleon Dynamite, while fiancée Alexis Cozombolidis dressed as Pedro.

Pence even went as far as to display some Napoleon dance moves.

Vote for Pedro.
Cleveland ice cream company sends Terry Francona box full of ice cream to help manage stress eating
When you’re one win away from winning the World Series, you’d be under pressure.
This is the case for Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona. Whenever he’s stressed, Francona eats something to take a bit of the worries away. After his team’s win in Chicago on Saturday night, Francona couldn’t sleep.
So what did he do? Francona ordered $44 worth of ice cream from hotel room service.

Wow, Terry!
To help Francona, Pierre’s Ice Cream sent him a “World Series ice cream survival kit” packed with different varieties of creamy goodness.

With the [Cubs forcing a Game 7](http://www.ksl.com/?sid=42065074&nid=249), I assume Francona's nerves got the best of him last night and ate the entire contents of the box overnight.
Trust The Process: Joel Embiid introduced as “The Process”
Former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie was the architect of the team tanking over the previous three seasons. Hinkie made several odd moves as GM, including obtaining many draft picks via trades.
When questioned about his managerial moves, Hinkie asked the media and fans to be patient. With that, the “Trust The Process” motto was created.
In April, Hinkie stepped down as general manager.
One of Hinkie’s drafts during his tenure was Joel Embiid. The former University of Kansas star seemed like he was going to be an immediate-impact player but, because of a foot injury, Embid missed two full seasons of action.
Embiid recently made his long-awaited NBA debut and did not disappoint, scoring 20 points to go along with seven rebounds in 25 minutes of action.
Embiid has embraced the “process” to the fullest. How so? He’s taken on a new nickname, “The Process.”

If Joel Embiid is “The Process”, all Hinkie doubters need to take back the criticism of his work. Embiid looks like the real deal.
Process trusted.
